Job Summary
The Purchaser performs procurement function to secure supply of raw materials, components, other materials and services from vendors ensuring price, delivery and quality targets are achieved. The position will be creative in problem solving!
Responsibilities
- Plan and procure raw materials and subcomponents used in manufacturing
- Use ERP system to place and manage purchase orders for production and non-stock items
- Monitor and maintain accurate inventory levels
- Expedite orders and manage inventory discrepancies and shortages
- Source and maintain relationships with suppliers, focusing on quality, pricing, and delivery performance
- Negotiate contracts, prices, and terms/conditions with vendors
- Enforce corrective actions with suppliers to ensure adherence to performance metrics
- Ensure timely delivery of products and manage supplier performance reviews
- Identify and resolve inventory system issues, ensuring accurate data entry and system setup
- Coordinate with production, sales, and engineering teams to schedule and communicate the status of vendor requirements and issues
- Reschedule orders based on the build plan and resolve capacity constraints
- Support new product introduction, including material availability and production planning
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance on-time delivery performance and internal processes
- Prepare and review procurement reports, contracts, bids, and vendor agreements
Requirements:
- 5+ years in Buyer/Purchasing role
- Must have experience in a production environment; the automotive industry strongly preferred
- Must have demonstrated a high level of attention to detail, especially regarding a high volume of parts and products
- Must have a high level of initiative with no issues working independently
- Must have strong experience and knowledge of maintaining ERP systems
Education:
- Secondary School (preferred)
Experience:
- purchasing: 3 years (preferred)
